April 2009
Dear Montrose Members,
I believe Jesus is coming soon! What a privilege it was to share with people in our community who are “searching for hope” that they can find it in God’s Word. I want to thank our church family for your support of these evangelistic meetings. One person who came up after a few nights told me she has been searching for three years for a church home and although she doesn’t understand yet everything we believe that they want to begin attending our congregation. Another person, who attended the second-to-last meeting (on the gift of prophecy), said that she wanted to read Ellen White’s writings and asked if it would be OK to attend church. Similarly, I was at the hospital here in town a couple of days ago and met a member of our congregation who stopped attending church years ago. I invited her back to church. She said she would come. All of these things convince me that as Jesus said “the harvest is ripe” but the laborers are few. Will you join me in helping to continue sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with our community?
In addition to our evangelistic meetings we had lots of other activities going on. One highlight was when Elder Ed Reid spoke (pictured left) on March 19-20 at our church on end-time events, the new “faith and finance” seminar program, and religious liberty. We had people travel from Ft. Collins, Denver, Alamosa, and even out-of-state to attend this special “high Sabbath.” I’m also thankful for our youth programs: we’ve had new young people join both our Adventurer and Pathfinder clubs. I enjoyed teaching the Camping Skills I honor to our Pathfinders, which included a trip to the Cooper home to learn how to build a campfire with a single match and then bake bread on a stick. A good time was had by all.
In April we have some special worship services planned beginning with a Communion service on April 4. The following Sabbath will be another “high Sabbath” with Elder Eric Nelson, vice-president for administration for the Rocky Mountain Conference. On that Saturday night (April 11) we will close the Sabbath with a vespers program followed by a constituency meeting. Then on April 17-18 David Swinyar has organized a western slope youth rally complete with a golf tornament on Sunday, April 19 (sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board at church). I’m thankful that we can have Lonnie Hetterle, our Rocky Mountain Conference education superintendent, out here for our school constituency meeting on April 11 and then he is coming back to preach on April 25. Altogether we have a number of guest speakers this month, which is intentional because Heidi and I are expecting our second child to be born. He is officially due April 14, but he could arrive any day! Heidi and I want to express our appreciation for the baby shower our church family had for us in March. We really appreciate all of the gifts of love that will be so helpful once our son arrives. After he arrives we will resume prayer meeting with a Daniel and Revelation class on Tuesday nights (and for the time being postpone our series on Ellen White).
For the first three months of 2009 our church received $20,686 of the $21,771 needed for combined church budget (approximately 95 percent of what is needed). Thank you for your faithfulness in supporting our congregation and in giving back to the Lord His tithes and offerings that He asks us to give.
One June 5-6 we will have a camp meeting with Dr. Jud Lake, professor of preaching at Southern Adventist University, as our featured speaker. Please make sure to save the date!
Yours in the “blessed hope,”
Michael W. Campbell
