September 2008
Dear Montrose Members,

This month marks the conclusion of our first year at Montrose. We praise the Lord for the privilege of ministry here on the western slope. I am humbled with the prospect of my ordination on Sept. 20 when I will be formally set apart to the gospel ministry. Ever since I was a child I have felt a conviction to answer the words of Jesus: “feed my sheep” (John 21:17).

noah.jpg, 697kBAugust highlights for me included attending our ministerial meetings at Glacier View Ranch immediately followed by our church camp out at Dinosaur National Park. Dr. Timothy Standish did a stellar job reminding us what a magnificent Creator we have, and although we don’t understand everything about the fossil record, we have overwhelming evidence to confirm our faith in a literal creation. Another church highlight was the baby shower for Eddie & Kelly Reed at our home. We had 80 people show up and a big pile of presents that should give them plenty to do as they set up their nursery. I want to thank our church family for their generosity and support of this growing family.kelly.jpg, 519kB

On Aug. 23 we had a church business and school constituency meetings. I gave a presentation about principles for evangelism from the life and writings of Ellen G. White. We afterward voted to have an evangelistic series in early 2009 at our church. I will be putting together the meetings. We also solicited names to represent our church at the Rocky Mountain Conference constituency session, the use of half of our church savings to help the school make up a significant financial shortfall (an estimated $35,000 because our enrollment is down from 30 over the past two years to 18 as of the first week of school), and voted a new edition of the school constitution.

We are thankful for each young person at Spring Creek Adventist School. Although enrollment is down, spirits are high as we start a new school year. Pastor Jim Wibberding gave the first chapel talk, and on the first Friday evening our school had a vespers bonfire with smores to inaugurate the new school year. I was thankful during the first week of school to bring over a baby-bearded dragon that is on loan to our school courtesy of Pastor Seth Coridan.

We have a full line up of worship services for September. I am beginning a series entitled “That you may know” based on 1 John that will continue through the fall. My first sermon in the series, “See, Hear, Touch, and Feel” (1 John 1:1-4) will be Sept. 6. On Sept. 13 principal David Swinyar will be leading out in a special education Sabbath. Then on Sept. 20 Elder Nikolaus Satelmajer, the editor of Ministry, will be hear to preach and participate that evening in my ordination. That same day Dr. Jud Lake, one of my professors from Southern Adventist University, will be giving a talk on time management—the first in our monthly meetings on leadership. Then on Sept. 27 Martin Weber, the editor of Outlook, will be our guest speaker.

From Sept. 12 to 20 we will have nightly meetings at 6:30 p.m. as our church hosts the Amazing Facts Kids seminar via satellite with Pastor Doug Batchelor. This is a great opportunity for our children to learn about Jesus. It is for adults, too. There will be presentations for parents to learn more about parenting from a Christian perspective. Please come and invite your friends along with their children to learn more about Jesus through these meetings.

I pray that God will bless you as we grow together in grace.

God bless,
Michael W. Campbell
Pastor
