July/August 2010
Dear Church Family,
I love to eat fresh fruits and vegetables from our garden. I don’t know about you, but there is a real satisfaction to being able to eat the fruits of our labors. A sun-ripened tomato just tastes so much yummier! In a similar way, God has given us each spiritual gifts and He grows us. And as a church family we have the privilege of “tasting” and “seeing” just how good God is! (Psalm 34:8).
During June we had some delicious spiritual fruits that we were able to be a part of: our church family had a spiritual retreat with Dr. George Knight at the Ridgway State Park, our new teacher, Michelle Caviness and her children arrived here in Montrose, and we were blessed by a spiritual concert with Ron Woolsey. If you ever want to feel a lot of energy you needed to make sure you were there for Vacation Bible School. We’re especially thankful for Allison Duncan and her team of helpers who helped to disciple our young people while at the same time I know they had a lot of fun!
A personal highligh for me was being able to attend our 59th General Conference Session of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. I had the privilege of being able to be a part of the Adventist Review staff in producing the daily General Conference Bulletin. As such I was able to listen to deliberations over the new Church Manual and other topics that affect our church, the reasoning behind them, and it gave me a whole new perspective on how our church works and why. I loved being right in the middle of all the action, and I appreciate the support of our church family that you made it possible for me to participate.
Perhaps the most significant topic to be debated was the issue of Creation. Our world church family affirmed that we do indeed believe in a literal, six-day creation that was done by God. This is an important belief that not only ties into our observance of the seventh-day Sabbath, but ties into every aspect of our theology. I was glad that a vote was taken to affirm the 2004 Annual Council statement of affirmation, and that such language will be integrated into fundamental belief six.
During July and August we have a number of special worship services planned to help you in your walk with the Lord: on July 10, 24, and August 7, 14, 21, and 28 I will be preaching. On July 17 Gordon Reichard; and on July 31 we are having a sacred concert for the worship service by the group “Simply His.”
You won’t want to miss out on school registration at Spring Creek Adventist School the afternoon of Sunday, July 25. At the same time it will be an opportunity to sign up young people in either Adventurers or Pathfinders. Our young people are so important and we want to provide every opportunity that we can to help them grow closer with the Lord. Whether it is at school or in one of our youth groups these are important programs that your child (or grandchild) needs to be a part of.
During this “hot” summer it is my prayer that you will feel the cool, refreshing presence of the Lord in your life (Acts 3:19).
God Bless,
Michael W. Campbell
