WORSHIP WITH BILL HAY & SUNDAY BRUNCH
This Sabbath Rocky Mountain Conference stewardship director, Bill Hay, will be speaking to us about "Opening Heaven's Windows." I am looking forward to learning more about how God has blessed me and our church family. Sabbath morning I'll be doing a brief "State of the Church" to review the generosity of our church family over the past year. Plus, we have a very special opportunity: on Sunday morning at 9:30 we're going to have a brunch followed by a seminar on wills and trusts. I hope you'll come and join me as we focus on stewardship this weekend (the Super Bowl isn't until 4 pm so you shouldn't have any trouble getting to see it!).

GAME NIGHT
Saturday night we are having games and fun at the church. The action starts at 6:30 p.m. so you won't want to miss out!

PRAYER MEETING
We will conclude our prayer meeting series entitled "Just Walk Across the Room" next week. I've been blessed as we have gone through the series. God journeyed across the universe to save us, and all we have to do is walk across the room. We've been learning about how to share our testimony, and in this last session we're going to cover "Grander Vision Living." It's not too late to benefit from learning how to introduce yoru friends to Jesus through this series. Incidentally, our next prayer meeting series will begin on Feb. 12. The theme is healthy marriages and families.

PASTOR'S BLOG FOR JANUARY 31
We didn't end up going down to Durango on Sunday for the pastor's meetings on Monday. The weather looked ominous, and I have a healthy respect for Red Mountain pass. On Sunday evening I got a call from our coordinator down there who left a voice mail message. He said, in essence, I hope you aren't coming down--if you do you're crazy--anyways we've decided to cancel the meeting.

I can't believe that it has been just about a year since Heidi went into labor. Wow! What a wonderful year it has been, and I am astounded at how much she has changed during her first year. Now she is walking around, trying to communicate, and this week she thought it would be fun to start feeding Mom & Dad some of her food (instead of the other way around!). It was really cute.

During our last church board meeting we made a very strategic decision for our church family--we voted to hire a Bible worker for the summer. Please pray as we seek the right person here for Montrose. I'm also excited because I think this will help to build on the upcoming cooking school (February/March) and stop-smoking (April) seminars our church is going to hold. I'm also glad that Jackie Adragna is working on putting together a health fair for our church.

WORSHIP WITH PASTOR CAMPBELL
This Sabbath is religious liberty Sabbath so we will reflect on what it means to experience religious freedom. Our sermon, "Living the Mystery in Unity" is about the freedom we can have in Jesus Christ. What does this freedom look like in our every day lives? I hope you'll come as we continue our series on the book of Ephesians. Plus, we can be proud of the efforts our church continues to make around the world in the area of religious freedom.

CHURCH TOWN HALL MEETING
Once a year for the past couple of years our conference leaders have been putting on a day-long seminar. I want to encourage you to try to make it up there for the afternoon presentations. At the end of the day there will be a special town hall meeting where you can ask questions to our conference leaders. For directions to our church in Cedaredge click here.

PRAYER MEETING
We're now half way through the series entitled "Just Walk Across the Room" by Bill Hybels. I was blessed two weeks ago as we reflected on God's journey across the universe to save us, and this past week Norman Graham continued the series. If you are interested in introducing your friends to Jesus this is the series for you. Incidentally, our next prayer meeting series will begin on Feb. 12. The theme is healthy marriages and families.

PASTOR'S BLOG FOR JANUARY 24
On Monday evening I flew out to the General Conference for a strategic planning meeting after a church member gave a large donation. Various departments at the General Conference are trying to come up with ideas about how they can best use the funds. The only restriction on the funds, placed on it by Jan Paulsen, is that the money be distributed to projects that are mission driven. So I was able to spend the day brainstorming with other creative individuals. It was a lot of fun.

On the airplane I met a Christian financial consultant who was flying home with his wife. It was really neat to hear a Christian perspective on the economy. His burden is to help Christians become more stable with their money by encouraging them to save. I met another lady on my trip who is looking for a church family. I was able to invite both sets of individuals to come to our church. Despite what may or may not happen to the economy, I want to lay up my treasure in heaven--how about you?

Last night we took about 30 Pathfinders and Adventurers to the Montrose Hospital emergency room. Thankfully, no one was hurt! The kids loved touring the trauma room with all the fancy equipment, and we were fortunate to have an ambulance in the bay so that the medic could take kids in and show them what an ambulance looks like from the inside. I'm thankful for such great youth leadership in our church, and I can tell the kids are having lots of fun, too.

WORSHIP WITH GORDON REICHARD
This Sabbath we are in for a special treat as Gordon Reichard shares with us from God's Word about "Make Sure, Make Very Sure" based upon 2 Peter 1:10. We are living in a day and tiem when we need to make sure our election is sure! I hope you will join us as we learn together what God has to say to us from His Word.

PRAYER MEETING
We've started a new series entitled "Just Walk Across the Room" by Bill Hybels. I was blessed this past week as we reflected on God's journey across the universe to save us, and the powerful story of a man at soccer practice who was introduced to Jesus. Because I will be gone for one day for a meeting next week (Tuesday) Norman Graham will lead us in the second part of the series about how to introduce your friends to Jesus Christ.

PASTOR'S BLOG FOR JANUARY 17
Last night we had our first meeting for Pathfinders. We now have 14 signed up as our "Montrose Mountain Lions" club continues to grow. We started our first meeting with an orientation from Sharon Holbrook, worship by Judy Kelley, and then a thought on Adventist history by myself. We then went over our individual class goals and learned about skiing (once the Pathfinders actually go skiing and demonstrate their knowledge they will have earned their honor--for most this will be easy at the upcoming school ski trip but we may have to find a second option for those who can not come). It was an action packed night filled with energy and fun. I'm so thankful that our church prioritizes our young people.

Yesterday I had my hospital orientation as a chaplain and discovered that I will be on "call" the week of Feb. 18-24. I'm excited at the opportunity to pray with people in our community who may be in distress. They have a sheet that tells the chaplains which patients have checked off they would like to be visited by a chaplain. The person orienting me, Willis Jones, has very positive feelings toward Adventists after having lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, near Union College, for eight years. He is also a veteran chaplain having served as a minister in our community for 30 years.

I realize this is our first winter in Colorado but I'm still excited with the snow (I wish yesterday we had actually gotten three inches instead of the light dusting). At prayer meeting we sang "White than Snow"--even though the snow has been getting dirty it continues to remind me of how beautiful it is to see everything white. Every day as I drive down our street my heart skips a beat as I see the beautiful San Juans to our south. The beauty of God's second book, nature, surrounds us. And with all of the snow we've received, Jesus transforms our dirty lives into something white and beautiful--just like the snow.

Paul prays another prayer for the Ephesians--this time he prays a prayer for comprehension (Ephesians 3:14-21). Do you want spiritual power in your life? Come this Sabbath and let's learn about Paul's secret to spiritual success. Paul also talks about the importance of worship, which is particularly relevant as we implement our new order of worship as recommended by our worship & music committee (and building upon the suggestions our church family gave about six weeks ago). The committee has not recommended any radical changes, but it will help to make the service flow more smoothly. And don't forget to stick around for potluck afterward, too!

SCHOOL THANK YOU DINNER
This Saturday night, at 6:30 p.m., our school board will be hosting a special "thank you" dinner to express our appreciation as leaders of our school to you and our entire church family for your support of our school. I hope you will join us for a very special evening in support of Adventist education.

PRAYER MEETING
Our new prayer meeting series starts this Tuesday evening. We're talking about friendship evangelism and learning how to take the first steps across the room to introduce those around us to Jesus. Let's come and learn together about how to disciple those around us into a relationship with Jesus Christ.

PATHFINDERS
Last night Sharon and Judy were at the church for our first ten Pathfinders who signed up! Praise the Lord. I'm really excited to see this ministry of our church and the priority our church has for its young people. Thank you! I know that God has great things in store for our club.

PASTOR'S BLOG FOR JANUARY 10
It has been a busy week for me. I went out to my best friend's ordination in Merced, California, and preached at his church Sabbath morning. I also gave the formal recommendation of ordination to the conference officers during the afternoon ordination service. It was a beautiful, Christ-centered service. I'll never forget Jerry Page's charge (he is the conference president) that he not forget his core values as a minister of the gospel: (1) keep Jesus first; (2) prioritize your family; and (3) stay engaged in ministry.

I also managed to squeeze in several new National Parks. On Sunday I visited Alcatraz for the first time. It has been dubbed "the rock" and that it was so well fortified that no one has been known to have successfully escaped. The prison cells were impressive. Part of what made life on Alcatraz so hard was having the city of San Francisco within eye shot--they could hear voices coming across the bay. Prisoners were placed here when they had escaped or could not be held safely anywhere else. Even more impressive is "the rock" of Jesus Christ upon which we as sinners (prisoners of sin) are able to find refuge. The amazing difference is that instead of being incarcerated, we find true freedom in Christ.

This week we've had lots of fun at pastor's meetings (we finish this afternoon). I don't have cell phone service up here at Glacier View Ranch (as evidenced by my "full" voice mail box) but I'll do my best to get back to you as quickly as I can. I'm looking forward to getting home.
We're starting pastor's meetings at Glacier View Ranch. We've been getting warmed up with lots of short presentations, new conference directories (I have an extra copy for Montrose, Gunnison, and Orchard Valley), and plenty of new resources. Pete Braman, our conference youth dierctor, gave an inspiring talk about involving our young people in youth evangelism, and right now I'm listening to Will Martin, a youth pastor, talk about Jesus as the ideal youth pastor. I'm looking forward to learning more about how to support our young people in my district. I've gotta run but just thought I would put up a quick post.

WORSHIP WITH NORMAN GRAHAM
Whether we like it or not we are already charging full speed ahead with the New Year. This Sabbath we will have a spiritually nurturing worship service with Norman Graham about "Embracing the Promise." I invite you to come and learn how to stay "steadfast" with Jesus this year through the daily choices we make.

PATHFINDERS
Last Sabbath we had a potluck group that discussed the beginning of our new Pathfinder club, and yesterday our leaders got together to talk about the many things involved with starting a club. The name that I think is going to stick is the "Montrose Mountain Lions." We will have registration on Wednesday, Jan. 9, beginning at 6:30 pm.

PRAYER MEETING
Prayer meeting will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 15, with a new series on friendship evangelism. We're going to do a four-part series based on some new friendship evangelism materials that my friend, Ed Keyes, shared with me at the recent West Point of Evangelism seminar. Some of our upcoming series that we are looking at for next year include: Christian heroes in the history of Christianity, a series on families and family life, and a series on the life & teachings of Jesus.

PASTOR'S BLOG
Heidi and Emma ended up staying in Chattanooga for an extra week since she was feeling sick and the airline let her change her ticket at no cost. So I've been "batching" it for another week! Thank you for your hospitality, food, and for some of you, taking me to the ER on New Year's Eve (or, as I like to refer to it, a "progressive party"). On Monday I had a fun day skiing at Telluride but somehow managed to break my wrist.

I've had a lot of fun getting to know many of you much better as I've been able to make progress on pastoral visits. Thank you for inviting me into your homes, and for the opportunity to pray together. I praise God for the wonderful church family that we have. Yesterday was especially significant because I got signed up officially to be a chaplain at the hospital. This will be nice to rotate with the other chaplains, minister to people in our community, and I even get a badge so I get a discount in the cafeteria--their veggie burger is quite good.

I fly out tomorrow for one of my close friend's ordination in central California. I'll be preaching at his church on Zacchaeus Sabbath morning, and participating in the afternoon ordination service. I'm looking forward to spending Sunday at Alcatraz for my day off (hurray, another National Park!) before heading back home for pastor's meetings. Weathering permitting, Heidi and I plan to both be home next Thursday.
